It’s not “just” body hair.

When you think of body politics, what comes to mind? Sexual liberation? Beauty standards? Shamed natural bodily functions? Bodily autonomy? Yeah, that’s what I think of too. If you didn’t, these are just some of the subjects that fall under the category of “body politics”. (obviously all are significant), but most of these topics are collectively labeled as important. As serious. Now what do you think of when I say body HAIR politics? How about this: if you were to ask some family, friends, whoever what they think of, you’d find at least half of those people conjure this image up of an angry, filthy, hairy feminist, with a negative connotation for hairy. Maybe some would think nothing of it. Like it isn’t worth being part of political discussions at all. But like the saying goes, “the personal is political.” This applies to body hair, too.

For the first video ever uploaded on my channel, I wanted to start off strong, and with something familiar. The humiliation after being shamed for having body hair is a feeling I know all too well. It seemed as though the world demonized my body before I could even recognize the changes I was experiencing. So here we are— discussing the war on body hair.
